They come in aerosol cans like hair spray or shaving cream. Wipe of the excess flux from the soldered joint with a piece of paper towel. Spread the flux over the area you will be soldering making sure to cover the wires fully.
Usually no-clean flux cleans up nicely with isopropyl alcohol or distilled water. Repeat as necessary to remove remaining flux residue. Cleaning the glass and solder with a flux remover and warm soapy water is a great start.
Modify the soldering irons temperature to a standard work temperature of around 300 degrees Celsius. Apply to the oxidized tip a thin layer or flux-cored solder. Check with the manufacturer for recommended solvents.
In case of fluxes that need cleaning after soldering solvent cleaning or aqueous cleaners can be used. Some pens like the Kester 2332-ZX are excellent at getting the solder to flow and make very nice joints. The lower the total solids the fewer residues on the board.
Soldering Flux Cleaning. For instance most technicians prefer using or at least advised to use IPS Isopropyl alcohol to clean the flux residues for the post-soldering procedure. Wipe any excess flux off your fingers or brush before soldering.
