Filling a piping bag without the aid of a cup.
How to use a plastic bag to pipe frosting. Prepping the piping bag. Cut the tip and pipe. Hold the bag tip down.
Lay a sheet of plastic wrap about the size of a legal-size piece of paper on your countertop. Use your scissors to mark where to cut then slide the tip back up a little out of the way. Heat the icing until its still thick but a little softer than usual.
Fold the Ziploc square bag into a triangle. Use a tall glass. If using a coupler place the coupler in the icing bag as you normally do.
Dont put the tip on yet. Fill the pastry bag with the icing. Be careful to keep the frosting inside the bag to avoid a mess.
Pull it through ans snip off the excess saran wrap. Use the side of your hand or the side of the glass to scrape the frosting off the spatula. Plop a spatula-full or two of icing onto the plastic wrap.
Use the other hand to fill the bag with a spatula scraping the edges of the spatula against the bag to release the icing. Twist the top shut and youre all set to pipe and re-use the bag. This keeps the top part frosting-free and gives you a surface to scrape frosting from your spatula as you fill.
