How To Solder Solid Wires Together
Lay them together overlapping at the soldered part then blob them together.
How to solder solid wires together. For small wire form a shepherds crook in each wire to link them together or twist them together pigtail splice them solder. Begin by removing the insulation from the ends of both wires you are soldering together. In this way we will solder both tips together to strengthen the bond.
Use a thin solid wire 28 AWG-30 AWG and wrap it around both wires. Heat the joint not the solder. Let it cool without being disturbed.
For the stranded wire using your fingers gently twist the stranded wire in a clockwise direction to bring all the wires together in a semi-tight fashion. As the melt will start to cool down the bond will get strong. This will heat the wire to allow your solder to melt.
Make a solid mechanical connection. You simply touch the freshly tinned tip of your soldering iron onto the bare wires for a couple of seconds and then apply the solder at which point it will smoke and flow over the wires almost immediately and you can withdraw the solder and then the iron and you should be left with a bright silver joint like the one below. Its not too difficult.
Dont use too much. Place soldering iron under the wire. When the joint is hot enough just touch the solder to it and it will flow around it.
Affix the wire to the soldering clamps making sure that the clamps hold the flux parts of the wire together completely. You can bend the solder joint to one side but then youre left. Hold it on the wire for 3-4 seconds.
